AESTHETIC DENTISTRY

Face has been defined as a chart of destiny, an impression of fullness of life, and mirror of soul. Nature has endowed everyone with dignity and satisfaction of being an individual personality. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, in the same way while selecting the teeth or arrangement pattern one should visualize the patient as a whole.

In a culture where the emphasis on beauty is growing rather than diminishing, patients of all ages, communities, and genders (masculine and feminine) are apt to ask you, the dental professional, how they can improve their appearance by enhancing their smile. Whether the motive is personal improvement or is driven by the belief that appearance influences professional success, patients have become aware of their smile, what changes they might like to see, and how those alternations might come about.

If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story.

Smile designing: ART MEETS BIO-ENGINEERING

“BEAUTY IS POWER;
     A SMILE IS ITS SWORD.”

Cosmetic dentistry can completely correct or significantly diminish imperfections through a comprehensive approach known as smile design. Through both traditional and emerging techniques, the cosmetic dentist works in partnership with the patient to produce a new smile. One that the person will readily share with others with a new sense of confidence and esteem.
Dentists at shambhala, who are both researchers and artists, have carefully studied the fundamentals that makeup attractive smiles. Together, our dentist and patient will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each of the many choices to determine the final plan the desired smile.
By altering the relative size, edge design,or angulation of the front teeth, the final effect may be customized to appear “angelic”, ”trendy”, ”sophisticated”.
The best beauty secret is to smile...It is instantly uplifting… Both for the face and the spirit ! A  smile actually releases chemicals into our brain that makes us feel immediately happier ! So keep smiling at the rate of 60 smiles per hour.

WHITENING  AND BRIGHTENING:

At shambhala smilists’ through their state of the art in-office whitening system help bring about brighter whiter smile as well as achieve enamel detox and revitalisation.
Whiter, Brighter, Lighter...If you like everything about your teeth except the color, whitening may be the solution for you.
“ How can I have whiter teeth ? ” It would seem that nothing could be more desirable than a beautiful, sparkling white smile, and there are many ways to achieve this. Whitening teeth can be a relatively simple way to have a young appearing smile. Very often, dental bleaching is the treatment of choice, making it single most common  aesthetic dental treatment for adults.

Basically there are three options:

In-office whitening (done by dentist) : The Power Bleach (acceleration with curling light, acceleration with bleaching light (zoom bleach), Lasers)
At - home bleaching with custom made flexible plastic trays (called night gaurd bleaching)
Over counter products(OTC)

VENEERS:

Veneer is " A thin outer covering, a deceptively attractive outer show ". This is a great and effective way to change the shape and color of darkened or otherwise unsightly teeth. Veneers require reducing the outer enamel shells of the teeth and replacing them with glass like porcelain recreating nature's artistry and giving you exactly  the look and color you desire.

Types of Veneer are:

  1. Direct  veneer-composite veneer
  2. Indirect veneer-porcelain veneer
  3. Reasons for veneers
  • Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile.
  • Crooked teeth.
  • Misshapen teeth.
  • Severely discolored or stained teeth.
  • Teeth that are too small or large.
  • Unwanted or uneven spaces.
  • Worn or chipped teeth.

Composite Veneers (BONDING ) / Instant orthodontics:

Composite Veneers (or composite bonding) are used to improve the colour, shape, position, alignment, and in certain cases, the texture of teeth to make them more aesthetically pleasing and attractive. Composite veneers, often called direct veneers, chairside veneers or bonding is an alternative to porcelain veneers for smile makeovers.

      “  BONDING-NATURE INFLUENCING ART
                                 ART MIMICKING  NATURE ”.

A biomimetic approach to restoring decayed, fractured or broken teeth involves nothing short of learning mimic nature. And emulating nature successfully requires a thorough knowledge and appreciation of the structure of teeth and how to apply appropriate restorative materials to recreate function - nature's art in tooth forms. this means knowing what to use, when and how to use it, all with a great deal of artistic talent. Nowhere is this important than in the restoration of teeth in the "smile line”, that really show and are so important-because if you look good, we look good.
composites can be used to restore teeth directly- they are applied directly to the teeth in dental office in single appointment.

Porcelain veneer (indirect veneer):

An extremely thin custom - made shell that is astonishingly lifelike in appearance is placed on the front of a tooth giving it a new “face”. Dental porcelains in the right hands can make for spectacular tooth imitations by mimicking tooth enamel perfectly. This is also a testament to the artistic skill of the laboratory technicians with whom the dentist partners in producing life - like precision veneers to create your enhanced smile. Properties of porcelain are high strength, hardness, glassiness, high durability, transluence and high resistance to chemical attack. If the teeth are too heavily discoloured and are resistant to bleaching, than masking by means of a thin layer of ceramic, even when using an opaque luting cement, may not be possible. Masking such dark discolouration often necessitates tooth reduction into dentin and yet the longevity of a bonded veneer is a direct function of the amount of enamel substrate supporting it. In such cases, extra-coronal restorations, for example, dentin-bonded all-ceramic crowns, are likely to be more successful.

CROWNS:

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done for cracked or fractured teeth, poorly shaped teeth, teeth that have been weakened by root canal therapy, when a large filling wears out or severely discolored teeth, you may benefit from attractive crowns. Keep in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth are subjected to tremendous pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, providing strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. We custom-craft each crown so that it blends beautifully and naturally into your smile.
Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, zirconia, lithium disilicate, or full gold crown.

Tooth Colored Fillings:

The structured use of tooth - like materials such as composite resins, zirconia and porcelains through biomimetic approach (bio-life, mimetic-mimicking). These changes have significantly impacted upon the way modern dentistry is practiced. Indeed, we may have even entered the so-called “post -amalgam era”. Properly restored teeth not only function and wear normally under biting forces, but also look indistinguishable from natural teeth. “The goal of restorative dentistry is to return all of the destroyed or lost dental tissues of teeth to full form (shape) and function-allowing biting stress to pass through them”.
These adhesive techniques maximize preservation of tooth structure with minimal preparation (drilling) and allow the maintenance of their vitality and natural appearance.

White Fillings versus Silver Amalgam Fillings:

White fillings bond to the tooth; they strengthen the tooth by restoring most of its original shape. Silver amalgams, on the other hand, weaken the teeth and make them more susceptible to breaking. Broken teeth can be very expensive to replace; white amalgam can actually save time and money in the long run.
White filling composites are preferred by most patients. This is due to the natural color, strength and overall appearance and feel. Composites are naturally more comfortable.

Hot and cold sensitivity is greatly reduced with composite material compared to the silver/mercury amalgams.
Restorations with composites require less removal of tooth, less structure to place than those with amalgams and especially with new cavities. Dramatically smaller holes are needed with a composite. White fillings are healthier because no traces of mercury are used, unlike silver amalgams.

Inlays and Onlays:

In the decorative arts, an inlay refers to a small piece of distinctive material that’s set into a larger matrix: a mother of pearl accent worked into the lid of a wooden box, for example. In dentistry, it means something similar: a filling (or restoration) that’s fabricated in a dental laboratory, and then set into a tooth in an area that has been damaged or lost.

Inlays and onlays are a great permanent solution to tooth damage, both functionally and aesthetically.Indirect fillings are indicated where extensive tooth structure needs to be replaced. Essentially there is not enough tooth left to put a filling into, rather a restoration must be manufactured to replace most of the crown (the visible tooth).this may especially involve the cusps of teeth - little peaks or points of back teeth, and necessitates the use of stronger materials to compensate for this more extreme enamel loss. Indirect fillings are also often times an alternative to traditional fillings, and help repair tooth decay and structural damage. Indirect fillings are pre-made in a dental lab before your appointment, and then bonded in place during your appointment. This is different than traditional fillings, which are both made and placed during your appointment. Stop into Shambala Dental Spa today to discuss your tooth repair options!
Inlays and Onlays are custom made in our lab by our technicians to fit into or over the tooth. They are used when there is insufficient tooth structure to support a directly placed filling.

This is carried out over two appointments.

Prepare the tooth, take impressions and place a temporary inlay
The permanent porcelain Inlay or Onlay is bonded to the tooth.

COSMETIC GUM SURGERY:

Achievement of tooth forms that are dentofacially harmonious is often dependent on the ability to surgically modify  gingivally architecture. An understanding  principles allows for development of ideal relationship between periodontal  and dental structures that can provide optimal biologic and esthetic results. Periodontal plastic surgery procedures include clinical crown lengthening, subepithelial connective grafting for root coverage, and hard and soft tissue ridge augmentation.

BIOMIMETIC DENTISTRY:

A biomimetric (“bio-life, “mimetic” - mimicking) approach to restoring decayed, fractured or broken
Teeth involves nothing short of learning how to mimic nature and emulating nature successfully requires a thorough knowledge and appreciation of the structure of teeth and how to apply appropriate restorative materials to recreate function- nature’s art in tooth forms.
Traditional prosthodontic principles do not align with the biology (pulp survival), function and mechanics of natural teeth. In the “biomimetic approach,” the dental tissues are returned to full function through a hard tissue bond, allowing functional stresses to pass through the tooth and returning the damaged tooth to a functional, biologic, and aesthetic result. This is in sharp contrast to the traditional approaches being applied today. Even it includes stress - reduced direct composite restorations and porcelain / composite inlays and onlays that restore the biomechanics of broken and damaged teeth. So begins the restorative dental cycle in which the teeth are ultimately lost from successive treatment with biomimetic dentistry.

ORTHODONTICS:

Orthodontic treatment is an ingenious scientific discovery which has allowed the dental profession to accurately and precisely move teeth into only improved aesthetic alignment, but also improved functional position. The combined knowledge, skill and judgement of experienced dental professional team will allow development of a personalized plan - right options are for you to create a long-lasting, new or enhanced smile. This approach may take some time, but don’t be im a hurry - smile design for life takes time. As saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.
Ceramic braces and metal braces (Straightwire tech, Self ligating tech).

.SHAMBHALIGN:

"HOLDING  BACK IS A THING OF THE PAST.
A NEW SMILE LETS YOU BLOOM."

Shambhaligns are clear custom - designed aligners can be an inconspicuous and removable way to get a beautiful new smile. They are alternative system to traditional braces that use a sequence of  individual clear, removable “ trays “ to gradually straighten teeth. The alignment is accomplished with a series of trays each of clear almost invisible plastic that completely cover teeth; each tray is slightly different, and when worn  for 20 hours a day for two weeks before going onto the next set in the series, will move the into an improved position.Trays are computer generated based on proper records (specialized radiographs (x-rays) of teeth, jaws and skull, along with photos and impressions, to make models of your bite) and diagnosis of specific situation. Shambhaligns can successfully realign or straighten teeth, closed mild spaces, treat elongated teeth and tip teeth into better position.

Inman Aligners:

Inman Aligner is described by many as the “missing link between orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry”.“The Greatest Innovation in Cosmetic Dentistry since the porcelain veneer“.

The Inman Aligner is an alternative to conventional braces, and in some cases veneers. Within just 6-16 weeks, the Inman Aligner works to straighten front teeth without requiring metal brackets to be cemented onto teeth. In fact, this innovation in dentistry is completely invisible, delivering the results desired by many, and without the drop in confidence. Based on the use of just one appliance, the Inman Aligner treatment uses a lingual coil spring to put pressure on the teeth that need repositioning, while a labial bar reverses the same pressure. These components work together to squeeze the teeth together and align them into the desired position.
They are completely invisible and an alternative to expensive “Invisible Braces” which allows you to achieve great results using just one appliance. They can give you a wonderful smile with less hassle and expense in a shorter period of time and which can be removed and inserted as easily as a retainer. The cost of Inman Aligner treatment is typically much less expensive than traditional braces or invisible braces with which treatments times are also typically longer.

Tara's smile:

It is a teeth straightening treatment that only focuses on the front teeth (or also known as social six). Because of this, the treatment time is greatly reduced, usually around six months in duration. Meaning of it is more comfortable than traditional braces too. Using clear and extremely discreet braces, your teeth are gently moved into correct alignment. These are used as advanced and discreet material that are nearly invisible. Treatment time is considerably shorter than other teeth straightening treatments. It is generally less expensive than other teeth straightening options. And also uses a much lower force when moving your teeth, so your discomfort is minimal.
